ISA World Para Surfing silver medallist Tracy McKay will headline the KZN Para Surf Championships, which are set to commence on the 27th March 2021 at Addington Beach in Durban, with women making up 37% of the entrants.

Up and coming surfers Nelisiwe Sibiya and Alulutho Tshoba are gearing up to impress in the hotly contested prone division. Others to look out for are newcomers Zizipho Zukulu, Jodie Kroone and Natashie Siebert while Nthabiseng Lipholo will participate the visually impaired division.

Hosts of the KZN Para Surfing Championships, Made for More, are promoting surfing in communities by offering free monthly adaptive surfing sessions, so costs are less of a barrier. They also help with transport and accessibility needs to and onto the beach.

They also invite their participants in other sporting and mental health programmes to attend and try out Para Surfing and the healing powers and therapy of the ocean. Their surfing sessions are fully inclusive and are open to any and all disabilities whether physical, intellectual or social.

Over the last six years, there has been a significant shift and increase in women’s Para Surfing. At the ISA World Para Surfing Championships last year there were 42 women partcipants, the most on the world Para Surfing stage. This year the women entrants are making 37% of the ISA World Para Surfing Championships with 30 women in total registered.
